Thank you to all of the teams that made the trip to our 25th Annual Reno Challenge Tournament. The weather was super warm this year and we didn't have to worry about snow! We hope you all had a great time watching competitive games, eating at our fabulous concession stands, gambling and attending one of our Socials and reconnecting with friends. Our next tournament is scheduled for October 4 & 5, 2025.
After four years of starts and stops due to the COVID pandemic, we were finally able to host our now 50’ish Anniversary Celebration! The event held at the Croatian American Cultural Center was an amazing success with 450 current and past players, coaches, parents and grandparents attending.
Our dedicated committee members planned and worked the last four years to ensure the extravaganza captured 50+ years of the Sacramento Barons. Guests were treated to a red-carpet entrance for check-in and picture taking. A delicious steak and salmon dinner was served with a mini-donut food truck available for dessert.
Aki Kushida and Reiko Kurahara were both honored for their contributions and years of support to the Barons organization. Guest speakers included Gordon Kunisaki who gave an overview of the Barons history, Stan Ota spoke about the Barons first State championship win, Maria On talked about playing for the first Barons women’s team, Brian Bedford talked about coaching the first Barons youth team, and Marisa Louie-Noguchi and Cameron Fukui Barons discussed their experiences playing on the Barons Youth team and the impact it has had on their adult life. We also honored our Barons Award Recipients selected their Senior year who demonstrated the Barons core values.
Laurie Yamada-Mori created a Commemorative Souvenir Program that captured the Barons history, tradition and core values. Lastly, the Pavilion building was filled with treasures from the past – a collection of past and present uniforms, old and current pictures, trophies, and other historical artifacts.
The evening concluded with DJ NickNack, dancing and reconnecting with old teammates and families! We hope the pictures and videos linked below captured the evening. We hope our celebration will inspire each of you to reflect fondly on your own journey with the Sacramento Barons, and look forward to its future and another fifty years!
